Truncated Wedge Clam is a littoral species, typically occupying the upper infralittoral plane in the Mediterranean Sea, preferentially distributing on sandy bottoms between 0 and 2 m depth. The principal area of fishing is in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

It is a bivalve mollusc with a triangular shell shape with longitudinal growth striations and very thin radial lines. The exterior is white, yellowish, light-brown or purple-white, while internally it is white with often purple spots.

ORGANOLEPTIC CHARACTERISTICS
Appearance: intact shells; free of dirt with the operculum very close to their foot; adequate response to percussion.
Inside the mantle cavity the meat is lucid with normal amounts of intravalvular liquid.
